Privacy Policy
Calcise ("the app", "we") helps you plan meals, log food and track progress. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you can delete it. Contact us at support@calcise.com.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Account: name, email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash), sign-in provider (Google or Apple) | To create and secure your account |
| Mobile number (optional) | Only if you choose to add it to your profile |
| Profile: age, gender, height, weight, goals, activity level, food preferences and allergies | To personalise your diet and workout plan |
| Health conditions you tell us about (for example diabetes, high blood pressure or pregnancy), with the details that change your plan (such as diabetes type, whether you take insulin, or your due date). Optional; you can choose "None" or skip the question | To make your diet and workout plan, meal swaps, AI assistant answers and reminders safer and more suitable for you. Never used for advertising |
| Food, water, weight and activity logs | To show your progress and history |
| Photos you take or choose (meal scans, body scans, before/after photos) | To identify food and estimate nutrition, and for the progress features you use |
| Voice recordings when you describe a meal by voice | To turn your description into a food log; not kept after processing |
| Step count from Health Connect (Android), only with your permission | To show daily activity; read on your device and not used for advertising |
| Chat messages with the AI assistant | To answer your questions; history is stored on your device |
| Device push token and time zone | To send the reminders you turn on |
| The referral or promo code, or invite link, you joined with | To apply any discount the code offers, reward the friend who invited you, and see which partners bring new users |
| Your personal invite code | So friends can join with it. When someone enters or opens your invite code, the app shows them your first name so they know who invited them; nothing else about you is shown |
| Subscription status and purchase history (plan, dates, price), if you subscribe | To unlock paid features, handle refunds and give invite rewards; we never receive card details |
We do not sell your personal data. Your health and fitness data (profile, health conditions, food, water, weight and activity logs, photos and Health Connect data) is never used for advertising and is never shared with advertisers.
Ads
The free version of the app shows ads served by Google AdMob. The ads are non-personalised: we do not use your profile, logs or any health data to choose them, and we do not share that data with AdMob. To deliver ads, measure them and prevent fraud, AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as your device's advertising ID) and your approximate location (derived from your IP address). See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings. Pro subscribers do not see ads.
Who we share it with
- AI providers – to generate plans, identify food, estimate nutrition, analyse the photos you submit (meal, body-scan and before/after photos) and answer chat questions, we send the relevant meal photos and descriptions, chat messages and profile details, including any health conditions you have told us about and the rules your plan must follow for them, to one of these providers: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (Gemini) or xAI (Grok). Which provider handles a request depends on the feature and may change, for example if one is unavailable. Voice recordings are transcribed by OpenAI. These providers process the data on our behalf to return a result; they do not receive your name or email address, and we do not allow them to use it for advertising.
- Food databases (Open Food Facts, FatSecret) – food names or barcodes you search, without your identity.
- Infrastructure providers – Amazon Web Services hosts our servers, database and stored photos.
- Google and Apple – if you sign in with them, and for push notifications.
- RevenueCat – if you buy a subscription, to manage it. Payments are handled by Google Play or the App Store; we never see card details.
- Google AdMob – shows ads in the free version (see Ads). AdMob receives device identifiers and approximate location, never your health data or health conditions.
- Our in-house dietitians – only if you subscribe to the Human Coach plan and consent (see below).
- Authorised Calcise staff – a small number of administrators can access member data when needed for support and quality (for example, to assign or reassign a dietitian or check a plan review). Their access is limited to that purpose and, like dietitian access, every time they open your health data it is logged.
We may disclose data if required by law.
Health information
The app gives general nutrition and fitness guidance generated partly by AI. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for a doctor or registered dietitian. If you tell us about a health condition, we adjust that general guidance to suit it (for example lower-sugar meals for diabetes, or no weight-loss target during pregnancy); we do not diagnose or treat any condition, and your doctor's advice comes first. For some conditions we do not create an automatic plan and suggest your doctor or our dietitian instead. Data read from Health Connect is used only to provide app features, is not shared with third parties for advertising, and follows the Health Connect permissions policy.
Human Coach plan
If you subscribe to the Human Coach plan, a qualified dietitian working for us reviews and adjusts your plan. To do that, with your consent, your dietitian sees your profile, food, weight, activity and workout logs and your current plan, and, if you agree to the updated consent that names them, the health conditions you have told us about. Your dietitian can also update your health conditions; if they do, the app tells you. We ask for your consent each time a Human Coach subscription starts; when that subscription ends, your consent ends with it, and if you subscribe again we ask again. If we move you to a different dietitian while your subscription is active, your consent carries over to them. Dietitians are bound by confidentiality, only see the members assigned to them, and every time they open your data it is logged. Authorised staff can also see Human Coach data for support and quality, and every time they open it that is logged too.
You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings. Your dietitian loses access immediately and plan reviews stop. Withdrawing consent does not cancel your subscription by itself: the app takes you to Google Play or the App Store, where you can turn off renewal. Changes a dietitian makes to your plan are marked in the app and kept in a history.
Security and retention
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile and all logs, plans and scans linked to it are permanently deleted from our database within 30 days, including backups. The one exception is purchase records (plan, price, currency, store transaction ids and dates) if you bought a subscription: we keep them for accounting, tax and refund purposes after your account is deleted, with your account and subscription identifiers removed, so they are no longer linked to your profile.
Your choices and rights
- View and edit your profile in the app at any time, including adding, changing or removing your health conditions (Profile › Health conditions).
- Turn off reminders or revoke camera, microphone and Health Connect permissions in your device settings.
- Delete your account and data – see how to delete your account.
- Request a copy of your data by emailing us.
Children
The app is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
